... and Jesus bowed down and washed his disciple's feet

There is a beautiful tradition in the Lutheran Church, wednesday in the easter week the shepherds in the church bow down as Jesus did and wash the feet of the believers before the church service.

Washing of feet carries another dimention on this side of the world than in the west. The dust and the heat of the day make the feet so dirty, so the cool clean water in the basin becomes refreshing for the whole body. Beautiful! - maybe not so different from what the disciples experienced.

Shalom - a short presentation

Sharing the Christian gospel

Shalom works to help Christians, both pastors and lay people, to be confident and bold in their Christian faith, and how to meet Islam and share the Christian faith with muslim friends and neighbours.

About 7% of the Malagasy population is muslim, and most of them are from people groups that have had little contact with the Christian gospel. In some parts of the country Islam is challanging the church with active mission work. Shalom wants to strengthen the Christian witness in these areas, as well as equip the Christians to meet these challenges without fear.

Green Schools

Our elementary schools teach around 2000 children every year. Most of the 25 schools are in villages without modern infrastructure as road accsess, electricity, telephone, etc.

To read and write is the key to development. Shalom contributes to this in the young generations in the country side.

Our school work is part of the national school department in FLM, ProVert, financed through the norwegian government. Besides the normal subjects, the schools also have an emphasis on taking care of the nature, good governance, inclusive education and gender-issues.
